Usually when people think of traveling, India is not the first spot that comes to mind. However, several places throughout the country were among the top destinations to travel to in 2019. Naturally, the top city that appeared on our lists was Agra, home to the famous Taj Mahal. Yet, Agra itself is has more to offer than the great palace, with Agra Fort and the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah just a short distance away. With many more museums and amazing architectural buildings and temples, Agra is brimming with a variety of cultures and people. Other well-loved cities in India include Panaji and Hyderabad. With a country overflowing with exotic food, clothes, technology, and architecture, India is well deserving of its spot on our list.
There’s a reason why several shots from “The Lord of the Rings” films of Middle Earth were of New Zealand’s Mt. Victoria and the Southern Lakes. Full of breathtaking natural beauty ranging from crystal blue waters to snow capped mountains; New Zealand is the perfect place to explore. Activities like hiking, kayaking, sailing, caving, and jet boating are available all over the islands and are a great way to unwind and let out your inner explorer. And if hiking or boating is not for you, there are also many cultural attractions to choose from. There are several museums, like Auckland Museum and Te Papa, art galleries, and heritage attractions full of rich Maori culture and art to experience in this young country. With so much to offer, New Zealand is a great travel destination for every one of all ages.
Much like India, Egypt is a country that is solely known for an infamous landmark, in this case, The Great Pyramids of Giza. In the past year, statistics have shown a dramatic increase in tourism to Egypt and it continues to grow steadily. With big plans to open its new Grand Egyptian Museum in 2020, the country is brimming with excitement and preparation. After a tour of Giza’s Pyramids, travelers can head on over for a tour of The Valley of the Kings Tomb or book a trip in a traditional wood boat down the Nile River. With museums full of ancient artifacts, relics, and mummies, this trip is sure to make any history buff happy.
Curve-ball, right? In the United States, we tend to think travel trends are somewhere distant and exotic, which they usually are, but some can occur right down the road. Savannah is a coastal Georgia city right across the Savannah River, which separates the city from South Carolina. It is widely known across the southeast for its beautiful historical district full of manicured parks, cobblestone streets, antebellum architecture, and horse-drawn carriages. However, the city is best known for its giant oak trees covered with Spanish moss that line several historical landmarks like the Wormsloe Historic Site and Forsyth Park that look straight off of a postcard. If the picturesque trees and walkways are not enough, there are also several colonial homes turned art and history museums as well as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. With the excitement of a city but the charm and lifestyle of a small town, Savannah should definitely be on your bucket list if you plan on traveling closer to home.
Though this was just the short list, there are many other wonderful places that are currently rising as 2019 travel trends. Places ranging from classic trips like Italy and Romania to destinations more off-the-beaten-path like Rwanda, Mozambique, and Namibia. Whether you are a trend follower or not, having these locations on you radar can help you plan and determine where your next vacation will be.
