Hello from Melissa Bostic!

What Makes Me, Me: I am a lifelong resident of South Carolina. I grew up in Anderson, SC and now live just right up the road in a little community called Powdersville. My husband and I have three children and four dogs! One child is getting married, one child is in college, and one child will be graduating high school soon. So, the part about the three children living at home isn’t lasting much longer! Motherhood has always been my primary job and I’ve enjoyed all seasons of life. This part is no different. Watching our kids grow into successful young adults makes me extremely proud!

What I Do in My Spare Time: “Spare” is not really a word in my vocabulary because I tend to fill my time until there is very little little left. But, when I choose to make spare time, I love being outside. I love yard work and I love any kind of project. I enjoy being crafty and making old or messy things look pretty and new again. If I had an unlimited budget and the patience of my family, I would redecorate our house multiple times a year!

My Top Travel Hack: I am points obsessed. By simply using a rewards credit card to purchase things that you need to purchase anyway (and then, immediately paying off the card), there are so many travel rewards you can earn. I love watching my points go up and I really love not paying for a flight!

How I am described: A lot of people would describe me as an extrovert and the life of the party, and I can be. But, I love my alone time. I love being at home. I’m not much of a phone chatter. And a schedule that would “force” me to be social every day, would be torturous!

Outside of travel, one thing that is on my Bucket List: I’d love to write a book, or two. I’ve started multiple books, but that whole “spare time” thing gets taken by other things that need priority in my life right now. I love to write and it’s always been a big part of my life, but for now, the only thing I find time to write is a Facebook status!

If my pets could talk, what do you think they might say about me? This is an odd question because my pets DO talk. They talk all day long and I talk back to them. All four of my dogs have different voices and they talk to me and my family about all kinds of matters. They tell me all of the good things about me (and everyone else) and the bad. They have big personalities, big opinions, and big voices. How do I know? Because it’s me… I’m their voices. I earned a theatre scholarship in 1990 for my one woman show, “Buster” where I talked for my dog and it just never stopped. If you’re not carrying on conversations with your dogs, you’re missing out. They probably have a lot to say.

Aside from necessities, what could I not go a day without? Music. I don’t watch much TV, listen to podcasts, or watch movies, but I listen to music every day. Music is what wakes me up and keeps me going all day. Sometimes it’s quiet music to calm my thoughts. Sometimes it’s worshipful music to make me soak in gratitude, and sometimes it’s just music to make me dance.

My favorite season and why: My favorite season has always been summer. Here in South Carolina that means it’s hot and humid and the bugs are out. But, it has also meant precious time with the kids while they were out of school, family road trips, extra kids in our swimming pool, and grilling out every chance we get. Working from home has always given me the flexibility to enjoy summer break with my kids. It is starting to look a little different now that they are older, but it’s still my favorite, nonetheless.
